Last month 15,123 people arrived in Mar del Plata by air and 108,352 in the first five months of the year, thus virtually doubling last year’s figures.

According to the Emtur municipal tourist board, the increase of 97.6% over the previous May is the biggest rise for that month since 1999.The 108,352 passengers arriving at Astor Piazzolla International Airport before this month  also almost doubles last year, as well as more than doubling 2016 and roughly trebling 2015.

The number of commercial  flights also doubled to reach 244 last month and 1,515 in the first five months of the year

Meanwhile next week will see the envelopes of the bid to remodel Mar del Plata airport will be opened. The budget tops 150 million pesos.

Emtur reports that the occupancy rates on flights from and to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery this year and last have been in the 85-90%,range while occupancy on all flights last month was 76.1%.
