The new Express Entry machines at Ezeiza International Airport for those entering Argentina from abroad began operating last April.
A system for individual and automatic control including biometric doors, it observes the highest security standards.
To use Ezeiza’s automatic terminals, there are three requisites: being an Argentine citizen aged over 18 with a valid pasaport. Thus returning from a neighbouring country with just a DNI document is not enough for the Express sector.
The machines are located at one side of the traditional Immigration desks, where an employee asks the flight number, takes a thumbprint and seals the passport.
With the Express Entry system, all this need only take a minute, much faster than manual supervision.
In practice the experience so far has varied. Sometimes when several flights arrive at the same time, there are huge queues at Immigration while few think of using the machines. But sometimes the opposite happens – most passengers head for the Express area and queue up there, sometimes taking longer than they should because they do not understand the automatic system.
To avoid this, the following steps should be followed:
1. Scan your passport where indicated by the arrow in the screen.
2. Take your photo, standing on the footprints marked on the floor and looking at the camera bareheaded and without spectacles.
3. Place your right thumb on the fingerprint reader.
