In four months the second stage of remodelling Benjamín Matienzo International Airport is to start. The works will consist of expanding and renovating the building as designed by the famous Tucumán-born architect César Pelli.
Sebastián Giobellina, chairman of the Tucumán Tourist Board assures that the works will begin in October, as anticipated by the national government, explaining: “With the renewal the airport will doublé in size from 6,.000 to 12,000 square metres.".
"The project stems from ORSNA (Organismo Regulador del Sistema Nacional de Aeropuertos) aviation watchdog and Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, who will be carrying out the works. Airport operations will continue normally because the runway will not be touched. The new structures will be to the south (of the terminal) and designed by Pelli", adds Giobellina.
Those in charge of the improvements give assurance of a completely innovative concept, incorporating state-of-the-art aviation technology with a special focus on the implementation and use of renewable energy towards a sustainable environment. The design of the building draws inspiration from the natural and cultural environment of the province, giving it ia strong personality and visual impact..
The project includes a new parking-lot accommodating approximately 600 vehicles, as well as new interior roads and accesses. A new control tower 33 metres high and equipped with state-of-the-art technology rounds out the project..
