After 30 days of works to repave the central part of the runway, obliging flights to be temporarily shifted to Brazil, Iguazú Airport has re-opened and resumed operations on schedule.
Total investment in this terminal will reach 1.4 billion pesos.
Work on the side will continue until June since the runway approaches are also being repaired, the commercial plataform is being expanded and the signal beacon system is being renewed in order to increase flight safety and extend the useful life of the runway and the complementary installations.
Furthermore, the expansion of parking facilities will soon be completed, as well as the work to improve the efficiency and traffic speed of the roads within the airport. The passenger terminal is also being completely remodelled to reach a surface of 14,000 square metres as against the current 8,600.
The new terminal is geared to resolving functional and spatial aspects in order to increase capacity, improve the management of passenger flow and update the aesthetics with a more modern image.
There will also be new options for the gastronomic menu, better services and shops and two new boarding bridges for greater passenger comfort.
Patricio Di Stefano, President of Argentina’s ORSNA aviation regulatory watchdog, exlpained: “We want the construction of the new building to accompany the importance of the airport as the entry and departure point for one of the most emblematic and visited tourist sites in our country, the Iguazú Falls.".
For his part, Martín Eurnekian, President of AA2000, stated on behalf of the company: “We have reaffirmed our commitment to work, co-operating with the national government in the ambitious plan to develop the aviation industry, which is showing its potential day after day. We are pleased to be able to say today that we kept to schedule re-opening Iguazú Airport since we understand its importance for the Puerto Iguazú community and for the thousands of passengers who visit this emblematic point of our country and who deserve to be received with the highest standards of comfort and safety.”
