Minister Dietrich inaugurates El Palomar airport
El Palomar airport is the first one to be added to Aeropuertos Argentina 2000’s grid since 1997, when the company won the concession for 33 airports

El Palomar airport was officially inaugurated today (February 9, 2018) after the landing of flight FB5001 (Flybondi, a local lowcost carrier). The aircraft arrived without passengers on board. Flight FB5001 had been expected to land in El Palomar earlier in the morning but due to rough weather it made a stop at Ezeiza airport, where the passengers got off.

“With the storm weathered, El Palomar airport, the first low-cost airport ever in Argentina, has started to operate.  We have adapted the infrastructure of this airport that holds a large history in our country so as to enable more people to fly”, wrote the Minister of Transport (Guillermo Dietrich) in his Twitter account.

“It is a very important day for us, because today a low-cost airport together with a low-cost airline have started operating for the first time ever in Argentina”, were the Minister of Transport remarks to Telam, the state-run news agency.  He stressed that the “low-cost way of travelling” has already been successful in the rest of the globe but is a novelty for the Argentine market. “A hundred million pesos have been invested (in the remodeling of the airport), the new paving of the runway and apron, together with a state-of-the-art new beacon system”, he added.

Martin Eurnekian, chairman of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and CEO of Corporacion America Airports also attended the inauguration of El Palomar. El Palomar airport was added to the “A System” of the national airport grid by an Official Decree from the National Government. Thus, El Palomar airport is now the 34th air station run by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and the first to be added to the company after winning the concession in 1997.
